Wood Specie Characteristics
Woodsong cabinets are constructed from the finest in wood material. Wood is nature's product. Its beauty and uniqueness are shown in the variations of color tones and grain patterns. We cannot guarantee that the grain pattern or the natural coloration of the wood will match between individual cabinets. These variations must be accepted as the character of the wood and not as defects. The following is a description of the characteristics of each of the wood species contained in our product line.
Red Oak is an open grain hardwood, and the grain pattern can vary from a close vertical pattern to a wild arch shaped pattern. When stained, the grain becomes more pronounced and darker than the lighter wood in between the open grained areas. Pinkish color tones.
Hard Maple is an appealing closed grain hardwood that is creamy white with a slight reddish brown tinge in color. The color and subtle grain pattern makes it suitable for natural finish as well as light to dark stains.
Cherry is a close grain hardwood which will have small dark spots usually with a small hole in the spots. These are sap pockets where the sap has dried. These holes may appear on the surface and are not filled by Woodsong. There may also be irregular dark colored sap streaks and gum spots. Cherry wood naturally varies from a white to a red color. Cherry is noted for its contrasting hues. All of these features add a very distinctive character to its overall charm and beauty.
Hickory is a heavy, strong hardwood known for flowing, vibrant grain patterns and dramatic color variation. It can also exhibit random pecks, burls and mineral streaks. Hickory’s color ranges across a wide spectrum, from nearly white to dark brown.
Knotty Pine is a porous grained softwood which has random sized knots, which vary in size from small to large. There may also be dark colored sap streaks and gum spots. Color tone varies from white to pink.
Paint Grade is a closed grain wood, suitable for painted surfaces only.
Finish Specifications
Finish Information
Our skilled craftsmen carefully finish every cabinet. Stains are meticulously hand wiped into the wood, penetrating deep into the grain. After the sealer coat is applied, a high solid conversion varnish is sprayed onto the surface of the wood giving it a durable finish that will protect it from the rigors of every day use.
In addition to our exhaustive selection of standard stained and painted finishes, Woodsong Inc. offers a custom color program. If you can't find the exact color you want in our standard color collection your designer can have us custom match the paint or stain color of your choice. This service includes developing a sample that will be sent to you for your signoff and approval, therefore it will require additional time. Be sure to factor this step into the time allowed for your cabinetry to be processed and built.
Dealers must be aware that light colors permit all the natural variations of grain and color difference of light and dark wood to show in the finished product. Natural finishes are particularly prone to show extremes of light and dark colors of the wood.
Stained finishes are subject to fading and color change due to external influences over which we have no control. When adding or reworking cabinets to an existing kitchen, please be sure to submit an adequate sample of the existing finish. Every effort will be made to adjust our current finish to the sample submitted, but no guarantee can be made or implied as to the final result.
Glazes
Glazing is a subjective treatment. Every individual will have a differing view on what is the ideal amount of glaze build-up allowed to remain on the doors. With this in mind, we recommend a sample door be ordered, for customer approval.
